Below is an extract of a circular just released by SLSNSW –
“The State Championships Committee has continued to monitor the current weather event and its ongoing impact to the 2022 NSW Surf Life Saving Championships presented by Your local club. The Committee is also cognisant of the operational involvement SLSNSW, through its members, has with the current flood crisis across different areas of NSW.
Having inspected the event site this morning as well as contingency locations, it is clear they will not be suitable to host any beach events as originally planned for this weekend. Therefore, all events (Champion First Aid and Masters/Opens Beach) scheduled for 5th and 6th March have been postponed.
The Championships Committee is also monitoring weather and swell forecasts as well as water quality and clarity for the following weekend, 11th – 13th March. SLSNSW is mindful of the operational commitment SLS members are making to the current flood crisis and will be monitoring that involvement as well as forecasts to determine if we are able to present a safe Championships on those dates.
The Committee will be convening on Monday morning and will make an announcement about the Championships by 11am Monday 7th March. This may include cancellation of all outstanding events, or potentially a reduction in the categories and/or disciplines which we can safely proceed with. An announcement at this time allows us to have strong information about the weekend ahead, as well as provide ample time for members to make the required arrangements.
These are unprecedented weather conditions, and we are doing our upmost to proceed with the Championships but must do so within a framework which is safe for all participants across competitors, officials, and water safety."
Stay safe out there !!!
